I Forgot

4 Oct

Things slip my mind

like falling down a drain

carried to the gutter

washed away by rain

Made with best intentions

A promise or two

Then I promptly forget

Despite reminders by you

It’s not that I don’t think

or want to do these things

Let’s chalk it up to age

and whatever my day brings

I know I should make a list

on tattered pieces of paper

or make a note

To refer to later

Easily distracted by my mind

That swirls during the day

I usually remember

Even if it’s too late

So here’s a poem

that should have been yesterday

and here’s to tomorrow

Wait…what was I supposed to do again?
